MDS in Periodontology and Implantology | in Dental Sciences

Periodontology is the dental specialty that focuses on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the gingiva, or “gums” and other surrounding tissues. The Department of Periodontology & Oral Implantology educates the under graduate students in the didactic and clinical applications necessary to perform the entire spectrum of periodontal procedures. The department includes MDS programme which is a three-year program with an intake capacity of 5 students per year. The department also includes the Dental Hygiene Program, which has a intake capacity of 20 students per year. The goal of the Department is to promote periodontal dentistry as dental medicine where prevention can be practiced. Periodontists believe that personal good oral hygiene behaviors are best taught to and practiced by age-specific and social groups through oral health education. Periodontal medicine perceives good oral health as an open gateway to good general systemic health, and documents the many links to general systemic health affected by the destructive presence of inflammation and oral infection from bacteria.

Objective

  • Understand components of the healthy periodontium.
  • Define periodontal health goals.
  • Understand an overview of periodontal physiology and bone remodeling.
  • Identify manifestations of diseased periodontium.
  • Understand periodontal disease classification.
  • Describe patterns of attachment loss and their prognostic and treatment implications.
  • Evaluate choices of treatment strategies and how they meet periodontal health goals.
  • Build the foundation of the basic sciences in Periodontology.
  • To provide an update of contemporary techniques for the detection, diagnosis and management of gingivitis and periodontal disease.
  • To understand the features of healthy periodontal tissues
  • To provide an overview of the methods of prevention of periodontal disease

Outcome

  • By the end of the course the student must be able to detect and diagnose the periodontal diseases and manage the techniques in practice that give rewarding results to both patient and operator.
  • Identify the relationship between the periodontal diseases and the various medical conditions
  • Differentiate and treat different periodontal diseases and Instruct the patient on how to maintain proper periodontal health
  • Evaluate treatment outcomes and Different treatment strategies and approaches regarding periodontal problems in real life settings Competency.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of basic biologic principles with emphasis on their application to the orofacial complex.
  • Deliver oral health care to patients from different backgrounds, stages of life and in various settings.

  3. Fee once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances.
  4. There will be an annual increase of 7% in tuition fee.
  5. Students Fund for all the students is Rs.2,000/- p.a.
  6. Life time Alumni Membership fee is Rs. 4,000/-.
  7. Hostel & Transport Charges will be extra.
  8. Students who wish to leave the Institute mid-stream, will have to deposit the fee for the remaining period of the course as per judgement of the Hon'ble Supreme Court in the case of Islamic Academy of Education and others Vs State of Karnataka & PA lnamdar case.
