The candidates should have passed Senior Secondary (10+2) or an equivalent exams from any recognized Board or University with minimum 45% marks (40 % marks in case of ST/ SC) with at least five subjects including compulsory subjects of English, Physics and Chemistry along with one of the subject of Mathematics/ Biotechnology / Biology.
The course of study for B. Pharm. shall extend over a period of eight semesters (four academic years) and six semesters (three academic years) for lateral entry students. The curricula and syllabi for the program is as per the guidelines issued by Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi. Medium of instruction and examination is English. Each semester shall consist of not less than 100 working days. The odd semesters shall be conducted from the month of June/July to November/December and the even semesters shall be conducted from December/January to May/June in every calendar year. Courses are broadly classified as Theory and Practical. Theory courses consist of lecture (L) and /or tutorial (T) hours, and Practical (P) courses consist of hours spent in the laboratory. A candidate have to clear a total of 72 different subjects (47T & 25P) for completion of B. pharm. course in addition to the project work in VIII semester. On completion of the course, after clearing all theory topics & laboratory experiments in various fields of pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology and pharmacognosy, learner would be able to describe the history of pharmacy, development of pharmacy profession and industry in India, summarize the factors influencing formulation of various dosage forms, basic requirements in the compounding and dispensing of pharmaceutical products, differentiate various pharmacopoeias currently in use and discuss the contents of official monographs in pharmacopoeias. The candidate shall also be able to explain the relevance and significance of Human Anatomy and Physiology to Pharmaceutical Sciences, approaches of classification along with their merits & demerits. In addition to this, the candidate will become well versed with the significance of internationally accepted standards of nomenclature and recent developments in pharmaceutical sciences and its linkage to other branches of sciences. A wide-range of career opportunities is available to the pharmacy graduates worldwide. They can work in pharmaceutical industries in R & D, QA, Sales & marketing, regulatory affairs or clinical trials. Pharmacists can also opt for higher education and later pursue a career as a faculty in various colleges/universities where they can teach and conduct research, contributing to health services.
