The Candidates should have passed with minimum 50% marks (45% in the case of SC/ ST category) in aggregate in B.Tech/ B.E. in Civil Engg. or its equivalent examination from any recognized University.
A specialization at Post graduation level namely Structural engineering is a sub-division of Civil Engineering in which the concepts of analysis and design of structural elements are taught. Structural engineers are trained to understand, predict, and calculate the stability, strength, rigidity and durability of built structures. The engineers are given expertise to develop designs and integrate their design with that of other designers, and to supervise construction of projects on site and maintaining structural integrity, functional integrity and safety.
At the start, structural engineers may design the individual structural elements of a structure, for example the beams, columns, slabs and footing of a building. More experienced engineers may be responsible for the structural design and integrity of an entire system, such as a building. Further specialization in structural engineering can be given on the basis of material of construction i.e. Concrete, Steel or Pre-stressed. Moreover, Structural engineers may specialize in particular fields, such as bridge engineering, building engineering, pipeline engineering and industrial structures
