The hospitality industry has been visibly affected by the covid 19 outbreak. The situation became worst when lockdown orders were implemented to minimize virus spreading and peoples stopped their movement . The demand for hotel services nearly vanished and the occupancy rate dropped to almost 20 percent in early April, lowering the RevPAR by more than 80 percent year-over-year. Covid-19 pandemic is a major business loss to the global hospitality industry. However the Government are unlocking the restrictions one by one with specific detailed guidelines. But one thing is certain, the post-pandemic, guest will be more suspicious and careful about anything that could be a health hazard. They will be more cautious at every ‘touch point’ in a hotel, which will be challenging task to the entire hotel management in general. However Covid-19 has indirectly given us opportunities to look and think out of the box. The purpose of this seminar is understand new normalcy measures for accommodation sectors, implemented by major hotels worldwide during this covid 19 pandemic.

PROF. SMRITEE RAGHUBALAN has 21 years professional & academic experience in the field of Hospitality. Prof Raghubalan is co-author of the bestselling textbook in hospitality education – Hotel Housekeeping – Operations and Management published by Oxford University Press. As an active Executive Committee member of Professional Housekeepers Association (PHA), she was instrumental in conceptualizing and hosting 2 National Housekeepers Conventions of PHA. She is currently the Managing Editor of the Magazine VOICE OF HOUSEKEEPERS. She has been featured as a celebrity author on the web platform INDIAN WOMEN IN HOSPITALITY. She has been honoured with the International Hospitality Day Award 2019 by the International Hospitality Council and also honoured in Author’s Conclave 2016 at Lovely Professional University. She has moderated many panel discussions in the field of housekeeping, organised by PHA, Food Hospitality World and such Expos. She has been a guest speaker with Oxford University Press, TATA Strive and at Academic Events organized by many Universities.
