The role of a clinical medical assistant is to provide both administrative and clinical services; however, when practices and medical centres are of a certain size, it may become necessary for medical assistants to focus their skills on a specific area, such as clinical support. When providing direct patient care, clinical medical assistants may handle tasks such as taking vital signs and recording symptoms, performing EKGs and phlebotomy procedures, preparing patients for examinations, transporting patients to x-ray or other tests, drawing blood samples in sterile conditions, administering medications, and supporting physicians during examinations.
MM(DU) offers B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), a dedicated course that helps the students evolve as Medical Laboratory Scientists/Technologists. An MLT is an important part of the Medical team with full knowledge of diagnosis, prevention, and timely treatment of diseases through clinical laboratory tests. As a professional, you would play a key role in identifying abnormalities in the samples such as malignancies, pathogens, or genetic abnormalities.
Medical assistants are vital members of physician-led teams. They keep medical offices and other medical centres running smoothly. They ensure that all matters related to patient education, medical orders, lab tests, prescriptions, and insurance billing, are organized and addressed.
A medical assistant’s primary role is to support the doctor and other health care team members. Administrative duties, such as scheduling appointments and filing insurance claims, are also part of this job. Medical assistants may work in various settings, including physicians’ offices, clinics, hospitals or other healthcare facilities.
Although job duties performed by clinical medical assistants often vary according to the setting in which they work or the physician or group practice’s speciality, these healthcare support professionals often perform the following tasks:
