The Department of Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics at the Maharishi Markandeshwar College of Dental Science & Research Mullana aims at the diagnose and treatment of dental caries and its sequel, malformations, discoloration thereby restoring the teeth to their normal form and function with pleasing aesthetics. The department has modern dental units with separate UG and air-conditioned PG clinics. The clinics are fully loaded with all the latest instruments and dental materials like RVG, Surgical Operating Microscope, Endoactivator, Thermoplastic obturation system, Endodmotor, etc. There is an ample flow of patients for clinical training and an opportunity for students to increase their skills. The department has full fledge experienced faculty all of who are committed to excellence in all fields. The students are encouraged towards academic & clinical excellence via attending CDE programs & Conferences.


  • Recognize basic endodontic instruments and materials and use them correctly.
  • Understand the anatomy of the pulp chamber and root canal systems of all teeth categories
  • Understand the etiology of pulpal diseases and the relation between histological features and clinical signs and symptoms.
  • The basic biology, pathophysiology, and clinical presentation of the carious and non-carious diseases.
  • The planning of treatment protocols is based on the finding of various diagnostic tools.
  • The understanding of the instruments, equipment, and materials that are needed to restore the lost tooth structure.
  • The recognition and identification of caries risk individuals using caries risk assessment protocols and institutional diseases and preventive measures as the main part of the treatment option


  • To ​differentiate normal and abnormal oral and dental tissues.​
  • To diagnose and treat common and simple oral/dental diseases.
  • To interpret medical laboratory reports of dental patients and make proper referrals.
  • To successfully diagnose and relieve dental / pulpal pain and non-dental orofacial pain.
  • To prepare and restore teeth using amalgam and tooth-colored restorations.
  • To successfully extirpate the pulp and perform root canal treatment of single-rooted teeth.
  • To identify the clinical indications for using different dental implant systems.
  • To treat patients indicated simple removable partial dentures and complete dentures.   
  • To prepare teeth for single metal-ceramic crowns and 3 unit metal-ceramic bridge.
  • To describe clinical indications for veneers, metal-free ceramics.
  • To successfully diagnose patients with periodontal diseases and successfully apply phase I therapy.​
  • To know the basic principles of cone-beam CT scan.
  • To identify the need for orthodontic treatment in dental patients and develop a limited skill in orthodontic appliance treatment.
  • To provide routine dental care for cooperative healthy children.
  • To successfully give local anesthesia in the oral cavity.
  • To successfully perform non-surgical extractions and intra-oral incisional biopsies.
  • To successfully deal with medical emergencies in the dental office.
  • To recognize and apply cross-infection control guidelines in dental practice.
  • To select the best treatment option based on medical, dental, and social considerations of the patient as well as the available resources.
  • To recognize advanced cases that need specialist care and refer them to the appropriate specialist.
  • To select and follow up on appropriate scientific resources of information containing updated new guidelines, materials, and treatment modalities.
  • To participate and attend scientific conferences and activities. 
  • To demonstrate professional communication skills with dental patients, team, and related personnel. 
  • To show increased participation in voluntary community dental activities.
  • To recognize the basic steps of the research process.
  • To volunteer in current research projects pertinent to the faculty.


Conservative Dentistry & Endodontics

Conservative Dentistry also called operative dentistry is the art and science of diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of defects of teeth which do not require full coverage restorations.

Endodontics deals with the restoration of pulpally involved teeth to proper form and function. It involves performing Root Canal Treatment & associated surgical procedures to rid the tooth of its offending malady.
