The phenomenological study was done to understand the phenomenon of infertility as experienced by childless Indian women. Hermeneutic phenomenology was used in this qualitative study. Criterion sampling technique was used to select the sample. This paper highlights the findings related to personal feelings and emotions experienced by these women. Data was gathered using open ended semi structured in depth interview guide from 22 childless women attending an outpatient infertility clinic. Reliability and validity of data was ensured by using Creswell’s (2007) validation strategies. Data was analyzed using Diekelmann and Colleagues’ (1989) seven stage process of data analysis in hermeneutics.Study findings revealed core theme of impact of infertility with four themes as Emotional Foray, Personality Changes, Shattered Dreams and Altered Relations.Infertility is a traumatic life event for most women leaving a mark on all facets of their lives. It is crucial for health professionals to comprehend and interpret the impact of infertility in order to design and implement need based supportive psychological programmes for the care of these women as they adapt to this distressing situation.
