This paper presents improved design of primary and secondary suspension elements of Indian Railway General Sleeper ICF Coach in order to obtain optimum passenger comfort as per ISO-2631-1 standards. It is analyzed from the present study that vertical ride comfort is critical as compared to lateral ride comfort and the suspension parameters need significant variations in their existing values in order to improve vertical ride comfort as per ISO-2631-1 standards. Vertical ride comfort may be significantly improved with reduced per unit area vertical track stiffness and per unit area vertical track damping coefficient. Influence of modified parameters on stability is also investigated in this study.
