Seminars in cancer Biology Journal is reflective of remarkable advancements in each and every domain of human life pertaining to cancer. The Journal has been consistently focusing on diverse domains of rapidly advancing research in frontier areas of cancer biology. In a quest to keep the scientific fraternity updated about developments in the field of molecular Oncology, a special thematic issue titled “Emerging Trends in Biomarker Discovery: Ease of prognosis and Prediction in Cancer” has been accomplished with the expert input from oncologists world-wide. Many good quality articles from authors having domain expertise, have been the part of this very thematic issue. In the current issue, emerging therapeutic Biomarkers for the prognosis and early prediction are under the spotlight making this special issue of immense pharmaceutical and medical interest. Early intervention in cancer has always been a prerequisite to keep a check on the increased mortality rate due to cancer which is afflicting millions of people worldwide. How to precisely define and design such parameters for early detection, grading or particular stage of cancer are some of the key challenges before a molecular oncologist. It is reportedly known that mutations in biomarker genes (e.g. Her2/neu, BRCA1, TP53) could be associated with higher incidence of cancer as evident from the upregulated gene expression of such marker genes. The mRNA levels of such marker genes may also become significantly high in malignant tissue samples in comparison to the normal controls. Therefore, understanding Biomarkers are of paramount significance especially for their prognostic and predictive value in Cancer.
