Maharishi Markandeshwar Institute of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation organised an Industrial Visit for Master of Physiotherapy students to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. The aim of this visit was to orient students about the advanced 3D gait lab and provide them knowledge about the gait analysis.
The visit was attended by 34 students with Dr. Abhishek Sharma (PT) and Dr. Akanksha Saxena (PT),
Assistant Professor, MMIPR, under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Manu Goyal, Principal, MMIPR. A special vote of thanks to Dr. Pradeep Sarkar, PhD, Superintendent for providing the opportunity to
visit the gait lab. Students enthusiastically interacted with the faculty members present over there in the gait lab. During the visit students learned about the digital video system which is used to retain the permanent record of gait pattern and this 3-dimensional movement analysis system uses six cameras to follow the precise position of markers attached to the patient. Gait analysis reveals defects which are difficult to spot from observation and physical examination alone. Moreover, it is used to optimise the selection and alignment of the most appropriate orthotics or prosthesis.
The feedback obtained about the visit from the students was excellent and they demand for further
such visits.
