M.M SuperSpeciality Hospital performs life – saving surgery

Once again, M.M SuperSpeciality Hospital, Mullana succeeds in saving a precious life owing to the skill and experience of its team. Dr. Subhash chawla and his team comprising of Dr. Naveen yadav, Dr. Prakash Biswas and Dr. Shivam sharma and the anesthesia team headed by Dr. N P Singh saved the life of an eight year old girl with laparoscopy surgery. The patient recovered fully after the surgery and has started taking oral feeds on post operative day 2.

Dr. (Col) Subhash Chawla and his team of Minimal Access Surgery saved a girl child’s life by doing a challenging and complex surgical procedure laparoscopically without opening the abdomen. Patient Zaveria, 8 year old child came to MMSH with multiple complaints of pain abdomen with distention, vomiting and inability to pass stool and flatus from last 8 days. Patient’s terrible condition and her young age were a matter of concern for the specialist doctors. She was finding it heart to breathe as well. After giving her initial treatment and stabilizing her; a thorough evaluation was done with X-ray, ultrasonography and CT scan. She was diagnosed with left sided diaphragmatic hernia with herniation of large intestine into the left chest. There was a constriction ring formed around the hernial defect site with narrowing of large intestinal loop.

Diaphragmatic hernia may be present since birth or may manifest after a traumatic injury. Dr. Chawla said that Laparoscopic procedures are always better than open procedure. The patient has been discharged and reviewed after 5 days and is completely healthy.
