Webinar: Potential of Mushroom Farming in India

The global mushroom industry has expanded very rapidly in the last two decades by the addition of newer types of mushrooms for commercial cultivation. From 2010-2018, the mushroom industry in India has registered an average growth rate of 4.3% per annum. Indian mushroom industry generated revenue of nearly 73 lakhs by exporting 1054 quintals of white button mushroom in canned and frozen form. In India, white button mushroom is grown round the year under controlled conditions and also seasonally during winter under low cost technology. The main objective of the webinar is acquaintance about the production technology of various mushrooms.

Bajwa Mushroom Farm, Kurukshetra, Haryana

Being mushroom entrepreneur has practical experience in Mushroom cultivation, Spawn Production, Pasteurized compost production & Marketing, Mushroom Processing (Canning), His production and processing Unit is unique in India. About 150 landless rural women are working in his mushroom unit, which is unique case of women empowerment and nutritional security. He has got many prizes and also honored by Chief Minister, Haryana in Kisan Mela of CCS HAU, Hisar in 2007 and 2011. Also a Member of Board of Management, CCS HAU, Hisar as progressive farmer. Many Vice- Chancellors, Member Planning commission, dignitaries from ICAR, Universities, Govt. of India, students of various institutions and farmers from different states visited his mushroom unit. Hon’ble Chief Minister, Haryana also visited Bajwa Mushroom Farm on 8-12-2019 and appreciated the efforts in the field of Mushroom and Food Processing for rural employment.

2.Dr. Shwet Kamal, Principal Scientist,
Directorate of Mushroom Research (ICAR), Solan (HP)

Presently he is working as Principal Scientist at ICAR-DMR, Solan which is a premier Institution for Mushroom Research and Development in India. He has got Best paper award in north zone. Also got MIUR Fellowship, Govt of Italy, on Genome assembly and annotation of black truffle (Tuber melanosporum). He has more than 100 publications in high rated journals. He had worked on many research projects such as Studies on germplasm evaluation, improved cultivation and Pharmacological assessment of the medicinal mushroom Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), Development of Web based Mushroom Expert System. Presently, working on the following projects Genetic Improvement of mushrooms, Integrated pest management in mushroom and Process development and optimization for production of in-situ generated Vitamin D fortified mushrooms.

3. Dr. Behari Lal Dhar, Mushroom Consultant

Dr Dhar is having about 40 years experience in Agriculture Research and Development, more than 30 years in Mushroom R&D, as Director technical, mushroom R&D in Mushroom Research Development and Training Centre, Usha Farms, Bhijwasan, Delhi. He has more than 200 publications in high rating journals. Honoured by the International Society for Mushroom Science (UK), American Mushroom Institute, Washington DC and FAO (UN). Participated in FAO-UN Meeting on TCDC at Hong Kong, 1993 / New Delhi, 1991. He has also participated in the First International Workshop on the Mushroom Networking for the Asia Pacific (MAP) organized by FAO-United Nations at Sydney from 12-16 October, 1999. Also attended 2nd International Workshop on Mushroom Networking for the Asia Pacific (MAP) of FAO-United Nations (Kuala Lumpur), Malaysia, 14-18July, 2002, as Indian Representative.
